Back from LA

April 8th, 2003

Here I am, back from LA.

We had a great time, even though it was pretty cold for April. Got to hang out with PJ, Teresa, and Heather; DuPont put us up in a great hotel; and were total tourists while out there.

The awards thing was fun. There were awards in several categories for both innovation in production and unique applications in design. In the "Large Office Category" there were several honorable mentions and we tied for the silver award. There was also an award for "Best of show", this carpet took home the coveted gold trophy (even though it was actually silver colored) but we did not advance that far.

We also took a trip to the Ghetty and I saw the exhibit for Bill Viola. He does these amazing time lapse video things that I couldn't believe. I must have been in there for hours. The buildings are really cool as well, but nothing is like the cactus garden, whose photos I unfortunately deleted from the camera.

Other than that, we did a lot of driving around and checked out touristy stuff. I put together this photo album to show all of the terrific experiences we had.

    welcome home!

it sounds like you managed to get in touch with teresa, and that you all had a wonderful trip out west!

i'm really impressed by the david house. mark and i have been talking about landscaping, and we've been debating about going for any particular look. well, i think we've found it. luckily, you won't be offended that we're going with someone else's idea since you focus on *interior* design...

what a cool trip. i'm also amazed by the lovely highway shots. those are so soothing. it's a wonder that los angeleņos experience road rage with so many constant steady lines of cars creating a smooth and relaxing setting.

    talk to you soon,
    tara

It was great seeing the pictures of your trip. Looks like you got the first class service you deserve.

Hard to believe that so many different kinds of homes are in the same city. "David" beats them all. Don't think it would work in Dallas. Well, actually it would. Maybe we could add it to the smurf house and paint every other one purple. What do you think?

Thanks for sharing the trip to LA..Looks like traffic has calmed down since I lived there and ...wow...the Gamble House ...I just love that place with the Stickly design...wasn't it? I remember hearing when that house was built it was at a time that LA was VERY tropical so they built lots of porches so people could sleep outside! Wasn't it some kind of black inlaid used throughout and a specific design of the rafters carried throughout too? In a city with so much design chaos, this was soooo, normal!

    Normal..hmmmm...what's that? Oh well!

Anyway, I'm enjoying seeing some of our old stomping grounds, like Venice Beach, or the hotels where it was fun to go for a relaxing drink and see the sites...

Now, let's not forget the hoopla available in Dallas...women with big hair, big jewelry, stuffed bodies...in certain parts only of course, others pulled up so tight that there's nothing left to squeeze....and then there's me:) Well, better run, glad you're having fun, Love you, Aunt Tamara

I had to take down the photos from LA, as my server is running out of space. If you want to see the photos, let me know and I can email them to you.
