Idiot

April 11th, 2003

Heres a story from someone else's blog...

So we hired this girl back in December, we were way to busy to get everything done and this girl said she had experience and would be an asset to the team. After the first week I knew that we had made a huge mistake. After the first two weeks, she had taken more time off work than I had taken all year. But it just got better...

I had given her a couple of small jobs to do, nothing important, but she always figured out a way to completely screw it up. If it wasn't corrupting a file, deleting significant amounts of information from a file, or overwriting a newer file with an older one, she would find a way of completely deleting the file. Not only that, but when you ask what happened, she would just say "Sorry. You didn't tell me how to do it the right way." shrug her shoulders and walk away. It was never her fault, and I have now spent more time at the nightly backup drive than anyone that has ever existed.

But deleting files is only one of her marketable abilities, she never finishes her job on time (and it's always wrong), never shows up on time, leaves early, takes ridiculously long lunches, complains about not getting to do anything cool, talks on the phone all day (not about work), etc, etc, etc... After a while, I just stopped giving her work and let the other people on the team suffer her wrath.

After about a month of saying nothing to this girl but good morning, my boss approached me to ask me to speak with her and tell her what the problems are. My boss made it sound like I was the problem, by not making her part of the team. I even got in trouble for complaining about her (not too fair if you ask me) they said "She's new and you have to give her a chance". Unfortunately for me, every-time I gave her a chance I would get burned by the terrible job she did. So that I could just end the whole situation, I haven't opened my mouth for a month, I just watched her and let my frustrations fester.

Today was the first day when the entire team was in the office at the same time. We are crazy busy getting hundreds of drawings together to go out the door, we have 2 interns helping out 'cause there is absolutely no way the rest of us are going to finish on time, busy, busy, busy... At this point my boss is walking around answering a bunch of questions when this girl is working on her outside project. When my boss asked what she was doing, the IDIOT lied and tried to deny that she was working on an outside job.

It took about 30 seconds for my boss to realize what was going on, and started asking around as to how much time the girl had been spending on these other jobs. After a consensus: 50% of the time she was actually in the office. It took another 10 minutes for the word to pass up the chain, and another 2 before she was escorted out the door never to return.

The only word for this girl is IDIOT, I just wish everyone would have realized it earlier.
