There goes the neighborhood

August 9th, 2003

Sean, over at seanbonner.com, has this great idea to piss off the neighbors.

…Find a house in a very conservative neighborhood (preferably where homes have more than one flag on display, along with other patriotic paraphernalia).

Rent or buy the house. Take it over by legal means. Make sure you are doing everything legally.

Decorate the outside of the house with as much patriotic fervor as possible. Deck it out. Go overboard. Make it gaudy and in terrible taste. Leave not an inch untouched by red white or blue. Banners, posters, slogans, ribbons, bows, etc.

Acquire powerful DJ speakers. Take a cd of Souza marches and patriotic american songs (God Bless America, National Anthem, My country tis of thee). Lots of parade music. Make it celebratory. Crank it at full volume so you can hear it down the block. So that no one can escape its glory. Set the cd on endless repeat.

Leave.

Daydream about the moral dilemma being faced by the neighbors as they finally give in and call the police to come shut it down.

I think this is an excellent idea. It reminds me of Norwood's David House in LA, but the addition of sound will drive everyone even more nuts.

i think this is a terrific idea. i'm also happy that there's new content -- it makes my weekend.

i like sean bonner's blog. i think the addition of the photo section is something you should consider. i think that armed with your little camera phone, you could take some interesting photos. you could put a separator between the "blog status" and "archives" and call it something like "photo blog." just a thought.
