TiVo Upgrade 4.01

August 23rd, 2003

I was just over at the TiVo forums and read that TiVo has started to send out version 4.01 of the TiVo OS.

According to TiVoBill:

...We have only released it (version 4.01) to a limited number of Series2 customers to test call and e-mail volumes to our call center (as we always do for a new software version). If all goes well, the release to the rest of our customers with Series2 DVRs will begin in a couple of weeks.

The major change in the upgrade is the look of the guide layout. It now sports a full color - TV Guide style Grid, with the option to use the old grid style if you like.

The grid also indicates if a show is being recorded with a red "record" icon like the one in the Now Playing screen, but reports from the beta testers are that the new grid is slow.

Version 4.01 also adds support for 802.11g wireless routers.

hmmm... you should see about how to get onto the list of tivo testers. if anybody's qualified and able, you are.

from the picture, it looks like the new guide IS from tv guide. i hope that they aren't just using the tv guide itself, since i've found tivo's guide to be more accurate than others about reruns.

any thoughts on where we should click to let you know general comments and thoughts?

for example: last night we showed the blog to my family, and they love it. my cousin now wants a roomba of her own, and my uncle has made you one of his bookmark bar bookmarks on safari! congratulations! you're an outer banks hit!

how are you enjoying the new tvguide guide? it's basically the same as the guide on our cable system, and it's nice for a variety of purposes; however, i'm still a fan of the standard tivo guide. i like being able to see a bunch of shows at once on one channel and the ability to see other shows at the same time. anywho, it seems most like a personal choice.

ps: thanks for the austin weather update. i'm glad to know that it's not going to be 108 when we get back -- as it was when we left.
