Major Comment Changes

December 14th, 2003

The comments submission form has taken on a new life.

This weekend I added two new features.

  1. I've added a new "Subscribe" feature.

What is this remarkable feature, you ask? Well it's simple. When you subscribe to an entry, you will be notified by email each time a new comment is added to the entry. It's a great way to track what's going down with an entry you are interested in.

What else does it do? The email you receive will give you access to the exclusive Reader Interface Page. Only those who have subscribed to an entry get access to this extremely high-profile VIP area of the blog. In the Reader Interface Page you will be able to see all of your subscriptions and manage those subscriptions as you please. You will be able to unsubscribe from any entries you are tired of hearing about, you can permanently opt-out of any of your subscriptions, or you can permanently opt-out of the subscription system as a whole. (I hope you never choose this last option.)

Wow this is amazing, how is this possible? This is all possible due to the hard work that Oscar has been putting in over late nights. Yes, that's right Oscar is the same guy who also brought you the NetFlix info in the sidebar. He calls this his "EZ Subscribe To Comments Script", and I want to extend a thanks for coding this jewel for us.

  2. Next you will see this über-cool Preview section right above the comment box. Check it out, as you type, you can see what your comment is going to look like before you post it. This will not only save you the hassle of clicking on the preview button on the bottom of the page, but if you use any html in your comment, you can see if it's gonna work before posting. All of this was made possible from Jennifer over at Scriptygoddess.

Ok, so you guys have already noticed the changes, but I thought I would tell you again. Now if I could only come up with something interesting to blog about.
