What Is a Trackback?
December 2nd, 2003
Then the curious son mook asked, "What is a trackback?".
I can't really get into the nitty-gritty because I really don't know too much about how it works, but Mena and Ben try to put it in non-techie speak:
I don't want to quote the entire article, but if you want to read on here it is.
Trackbacks are often used between sites, mainly blogs, as another form of comments. For instance, instead of leaving a comment on someone's blog saying "Oh, cool!", I could write about the other persons entry and send a notification that I thought the entry was cool, now they can read what I had to say over at my site.
Here's a trackback I sent:
Back when I wrote my netflix entry, I told you about how Oscar wrote this cool plug-in. To give him props, I sent him a trackback. Now on Oscar's site he has an entry in his trackback area showing that I enjoyed his work, trust me its there scroll down to October 26 to see my excerpt, and people who go to Oscar's site will see that I have this netflix thingy running over on my site, and they can come check it out.
Wow, I'm doing a really bad job at explaining this.
So any-who, I added the whole trackback system onto the site. I don't really know why because there are about 3 ½ people who look at my site, none of which have a trackback enabled site of their own, but I thought I should run every possible geeky-nerd function possible so that I look really smart.

the only part of that i understood is that your a geeky-nerd. track that, jack!
i'm glad you at least tried to explain it though because i learned that it wasn't what i thought it was when i saw it pop up the other day.
i'm sure you have more than 3.5 readers. i know that my uncle and brother and sameer all look at it occasionally...
t
I'm apparently the .5 person/reader, cuz I understand this stuff only half the time...if that much. You surpassed me about 15 years ago.
But I'm definitely the geeky nerd, but I have other strengths.....just can't think of any right now.
Have tracking and tracking back and back again
I endorse 100% every geeky nerd thing you can think of. That is precisely my own approach!
