Netflix Cancellation

February 29th, 2004

Today I decided to cancel my netflix subscription. I loved the service, but I finally watched all of the movies I was interested in seeing. I always thought this was the fundamental flaw in the service. There were only so many movies I would be interested in watching, therefore long-term membership never made since for me. Now that I cannot possibly sustain watching one or two new movies a week, I will return to the video store and rent one at a time like I used to. Maybe at the end of the summer when hollywood has another backlog of shows I haven't seen I'll join again.

Netflix was really cool about the cancellation. They have a link on the site where I could cancel, they gave me a week to return all of my movies, and they even saved all of my information so that if I decide to re-sign up it will be like I never left. Now when I go to the site it says:

"Welcome Back, We're pleased that you've returned to restart your membership. We're constantly improving our service..."

I have also removed the "My Media" section from the sidebar as it is no longer useful.

Was that My Media thing a service of Netflix, or did you develop that yourself? I wanted to put something similar to that with my Gamefly.com service. Any tips?

Your service has been very good and so have the movies, but we aren't home enough to watch the movies. In the long run we are paying more than it would cost us to view the few movies we watch. Thank you again for your service. Please make April 1, 2004 the cancellation date.

Please cancel our membership effective June 1, 2004. We have moved as of that date and are uncertain as to our new address.

you RAN OUT of things to watch? You can't be serious. I've got more than a thousand movies on my own 'to see' list (doesn't fix on Netflix's queue, obviously), and I've already seen roughly 1500 films. Do you just have really narrow tastes, or what?
