Ski Liberty

February 8th, 2004

I just got back from a day of skiing at Liberty Mountain in Carroll Valley, PA. We left this morning and it took about an hour and a half to get up there. We got some 4 hour lift tickets and boot and ski rentals for about $75.

I've never skied on the east coast, and it's a long way to Colorado, so I wasn't gonna pass up a chance to try it out. I've heard that skiing on the east coast sucks compared to Colorado, but I had a great time. The slopes were covered in newly made snow and were well groomed. The lift lines were quick and the mountain was not too crowded. My only complaint would have to be the length of the runs because of the low altitude (600 vertical feet) of the hills out there, but I can only compare this to the +3000 vertical feet in Colorado.

I was excited because I haven't been skiing in 8 years, and I thought I would be falling all over the place, but I quickly found out that skiing is just like riding a bike, and after a minute getting used to sliding around I felt like a pro. I couldn't have asked for a better Sunday, at 38° on the mountain it was like being on a beach, and I was still home in time to watch the Simpsons.

What a great trip! I had no idea you were so close to an area where you can ski. You were always a natural---fearless, coordinated, and took to the skis like you were born to it.

I'm so glad you had fun. Hopefully you can do it often........

while i am happy that my fellow commenters are happy for you, i am not. precisely for the reason that i spent this weekend recovering from physical therapy on friday and last night doing knee exercises for the cartilage problem that has resurfaced on the back of my knee cap.why, you ask, would this translate to acrimony for your happiness? i shall explain.by my count, i have had more than 10 broken bones over my life and countless bruises on my upper arms -- and most all of them attributable to you. why, you ask again, do i bring this up now, and what does it have to do with you skiing this weekend? because there is no way that i can blame you for the injury from which i suffer now. now that i'm almost done writing this and almost motion sick from watching the preview what i type, i realize that i must leave this comment unfinished. not because it is an unfinished thought but because i have to go to the bathroom and go to work. perhaps, i can spend today trying to find a way to blame that on you, too.

I like Ski Liberty. Being from DC, I have never gotten to do the west coast skiing thing (I broke my arm before the one trip I was going to take), but I too have heard it is much better out west. Still I have fun each time I go and that is all that matters.
