Three Eyed Fish?

June 27th, 2004

I just got back from my day trip to Lake Anna, near Mineral Virginia. The lake is reported to have good fishing for Stripers, Large Mouth Bass, and Crappie, but we unfortunately didn't catch any. I did however get as close to I probably will ever come to a nuclear power plant.

North Anna Power Station

The lake was created about 30 years ago to support the North Anna Power Station. The power station uses four fingers of the lake for cooling it's reactor, and the fingers are apparently very popular places for water skiing as the water is nice and toasty.

My friend, who's lake house we went to, tells me that there is nothing to worry about with the reactor being so close, but I have a strange feeling there is a reason we didn't catch any fish. I also have one of the worst sunburns I've ever lived through and we were only on the lake for a couple of hours.

On the upside, I do have this beautiful warm green glow when I turn the lights off.
